A NEW PARISH CHURCH FOR OSTERLEY
Dear Friend of the Parish,
We are asking for your help in funding the building of
our new parish church.
We are very fortunate to belong to a thriving Catholic community that is active and growing. This however, brings its own problems. Over the last few years the parish community has been debating the future of its current buildings. It has recognised that the present church has a seating capacity for only 154 and yet regularly has to accommodate over 250 people at Mass. Over 400 attended the 2002 Good Friday liturgy! In addition, the parish hall, which was built some 20 years ago, as a temporary measure, has now reached the end of its structural life.
Many possible solutions have been debated. In the end, the choice was
narrowed down and a vote taken at all Masses on 6th / 7th December 1997. The
outcome was that the parish community voted to build a new parish church and
convert the existing church into the building it was originally designed to be -
a parish hall. (Because of the outbreak of World War II, the planned Parish
Church, on the corner of Witham Road and Spring Grove Road, has never been
built). Rather than sell any land, the parish community also voted to raise the
necessary money for the project.
The total cost of this project is likely to be £900,000. The
Archdiocese of Westminster will grant us a long term loan of £500,000 of
the cost. It is hoped that the new church will be built during 2002/3.
LATEST NEWS
On Tuesday 16th April 2002 the
plans illustrated below went forward to the London Borough of Hounslow and
planning permission was granted. Building is scheduled to commence in the late
autumn of 2002, with completion scheduled for August 2003.
